The Impact of Family Sports Behavior on Internet Addiction in Junior High School Students: The Chain Mediating Effect of Parent-child Relationship and Mental Health Status
Objective Explore the impact of family sports behavior on junior high school students’internet addiction, as well as the roles of father-son and mother-son relationships, and mental status in it. Method 815 junior high school students were surveyed using the Family Sports Behavior Environment Scale, 10-Item Internet Addiction Scale, Parent Child Intimacy Scale, and Mental Health Status Questionnaire for Chinese Middle School Students. Result 1) Family sports behavior is positively correlated with father-son relationship( p<0.001) and mother-son relationship (p<0.01), family sports behavior was negatively correlated with poor mental health status( p<0.01) and internet addiction (p<0.01); father-son relationship and mother-son relationship were respectively negatively correlated with poor mental health status(p<0.01) and internet addiction (p<0.01); poor mental health status was positively correlated with internet addiction(p<0.01). 2)Results of chain mediation analysis showed that the direct effect of family sports behavior on internet addiction was significant. At the same time, there were 3 indirect paths:①Father-son relationship and mother-son relationship played independent mediating roles respectively;②Mental health status played an independent mediating role in both father-son and mother-son chain mediation models(with effect sizes accounting for 44.1% and 46.8%, respectively); ③The chain mediation effect of the two types of parent-child relationships and mental health status(with effect sizes accounting for 11.9% and 9%, respectively). In addition, the mediating effect value of mother-son relationship in the path of “family sports behavior-parent-child relationship-internet addiction” was significantly higher than that of father-son relationship, but the difference was not significant. Conclusion:1) Family sports behavior was significantly positively correlated with both father-son and mother-son relationships, and significantly negatively correlated with mental health status and internet addiction; 2)This study reveals the parent-child relationship-mental health status path mechanism for solving internet addition among junior high school students through family sports behavior, which is an effective strategy to promote the physical and mental health of junior high school students.

Our study estimates the prevalence of Internet addiction in Czech adolescents as well as differences by gender and school type. A total of 3,950 adolescents (n = 1,940 boys, n = 2,010 girls) from 11 to 19 years of age (M = 15.73, SD = 1.99) participated in the research. They completed the Internet Addiction Test, which consists of subscales for Salience, Excessive Use, Neglect Work, Anticipation, Lack of Control, and Neglect Social Life. The results indicate that adolescent girls have higher levels of internet addiction. In boys, unlike girls, internet addiction was associated with a reduction in social relationships and interactions. Our findings show interesting differences between adolescent girls and boys and the type of school attended in the Czech population in terms of Internet addiction.© 2021 Institute of Psychology, Chinese Academy of Sciences and John Wiley & Sons Australia, Ltd.

Meta-analysis was used to integrate research on the relations between parental socialization behavior and child and adolescent physical activity (PA) levels. Four major databases were examined: PubMED, ERIC, Web of Science, and PsychLit (1960 -2005). Thirty studies met the following inclusion criteria: (a) child age (2-18 years) and (b) statistical information permitting calculation of an effect size between parent socialization behavior and child PA. Mean age of participants across studies ranged from 2.54 to 15.5 years. The unweighted mean and median effect sizes (as indexed by r) were.17 and.13, respectively, indicating that a moderate positive relation exists between parental support and modeling behavior and child and adolescent PA levels. The moderating effect of type of parental socialization behavior, population characteristics, and methodological factors were investigated. Theoretical and methodological implications concern the inclusion of mediated models of parental influence and the use of longitudinal investigations in determining causal direction. From an applied viewpoint, these results are useful for the design of future, more effective childhood obesity prevention programs by suggesting child-age-appropriate parental influences.PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2007 APA, all rights reserved

The purposes of this study were to (a) examine the stability and consistency of the Caltrac accelerometer (Hemokinetics, Madison, WI) and an activity record to assess physical activity in children and adults (Experiment 1), and (b) to determine if there is a relationship between parents and their children in physical activity level (Experiment 2). Thirty 5-9-year-old children and their biological parents wore Caltrac accelerometers for three consecutive days (including one weekend day). At the same time, parents completed a Caltrac Activity Record (CAL REC) for themselves and their child. Dependent variables were counts per day for the Caltrac and minutes of light activity and activity for the CAL REC. Between-day correlations for the Caltrac ranged from r =.73 to.87 for the parents (p less than.001) and from r =.38 (p less than.04) to.79 (p less than.001) for the children. An analysis of variance with repeated measures indicated no significant differences for the Caltrac between days for parents and children. Between-day correlations for CAL REC ranged from r =.67 to.91 (p less than.05) for parents and r =.36 to.72 (p less than.05) for children, and there were no significant differences between days. In Experiment 2, chi 2 analyses were used to examine familial resemblance in physical activity. Using the Caltrac, familial resemblance occurred in 67% (father and child) and 73% (mother and child) of the families. Using the CAL REC, familial aggregation was present in 70% (father and child) and 66% (mother and child) of the families.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

There is a growing body of literature that recognizes the positive effects of exercise on mood states such as anxiety, stress and depression, through physiological and biochemical mechanisms, including endorphins, mitochondria, mammalian target of rapamycin, neurotransmitters and the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, and via the thermogenic hypothesis. In addition, psychological mechanisms influence the effects of exercise on mood states, as suggested by both the distraction hypothesis and the self-efficacy hypothesis. Exercise has also been shown to reduce inflammation via several different processes (inflammation, cytokines, toll-like receptors, adipose tissue and via the vagal tone), which can contribute to better health outcomes in people suffering from mood disorders.Copyright © 2017 Elsevier B.V.
