The Mechanism, Practical Challenges and Governance Paths of Generative Artificial Intelligence in Promoting the Development of China’s Sports Competition and Performance Industry

After analyzing via literature research, case analysis and other methods, it is found that the application of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in the sports competition and performance industry will have a significant impact on the generation mechanism of sports event content, the enhancement mechanism of viewing experience, the optimization mechanism of event marketing, and the innovation mechanism of business models. However, there are several practical challenges in the application of GenAI in this industry. Specifically, GenAI’s illusions and algorithmic biases conflict with the fairness and authenticity of sports competitions; data sensitivity and insufficient computing power hinder the sustainable application of GenAI in the sports competition performance industry; the shortage and lag in the cultivating compound talents with interdisciplinary backgrounds in AI and sports restrict the high-quality broadcasting of events; and excessive reliance on GenAI technology and an excessive pursuit of its efficiency will exert negative impacts on the industry. Based on this, countermeasures are proposed for the application of GenAI in the sports competition and performance industry, including algorithm correction and illusion suppression, data security governance and computing power development, the cultivation of compound talents with interdisciplinary backgrounds in AI and sports, and the inno vation of human-machine collaboration mechanisms.
